Streep, Fey among readers at poetry gala

FILE - In this Feb. 24, 2013, file photo, Meryl Streep appears at the Oscars at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. Empty seats were rare Thursday night, April 24, 2014, at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall, in New York, for “Poetry & the Creative Mind,” an all-star celebration presented by the Academy of American Poets. Streep recited works on parenting by Sylvia Plath and Richard Wilbur, while Tina Fey was at her comic best reading James Tate’s “The List of Famous Hats,” and Patrick Stewart chose Carl Sandburg’s “Jaws” and a personal favorite, Edna St. Vincent Millay’s “God’s World.” (Photo by Chris Pizzello/Invision/AP, File) NEW YORK (AP) — You won't often find a thousand people in evening dress attending a poetry reading. But the readers usually don't include Meryl Streep, Tina Fey and Sir Patrick Stewart.
