TV star figures in Syria uprising and pays a price

In this Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013 photo, Syrian actress Mai Skaf, 44, waits to play her role in a low budget film in Amman, Jordan. As one of the earliest Syrian celebrities to speak out against Syrian President Bashar Assad, Skaf is a heroine of the rebel cause, and it’s a role that has cost the film star dearly. Many, like Skaf, have moved to neighboring Jordan, but the Jordan’s movie industry is too small to absorb newcomers, says Sari Assad, a deputy chief of the 400-member Jordanian Syndicate of Artists.
