Hammerstein museum plan hits sour note for some

In this Dec. 29, 2014, photo, Owner Christine Cole, stands in a doorway of a farmhouse at Highland Farm in Doylestown Township, Pa. Oscar Hammerstein co-wrote several blockbuster Broadway shows at this farm in suburban Philadelphia, including “Oklahoma!” and “The Sound of Music.” But his grandson’s plan to turn the site into a museum and theater isn’t music to the ears of some Doylestown residents. Cole and Will Hammerstein envision the $20 million project as a tourist attraction and education center, while some township supervisors and neighbors oppose the scale of the plan, saying it’s too much development for a suburban area.
