Egypt: Revolution, turmoil impact on pop culture

In this Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013 photo, Egyptian youths dance, to "Mahraganat," Arabic for "festivals," music, a rapid-fire electronic beat, mixed with hypnotic rhythms, during a bachelors party, in El-Marg, a suburb northeast of Cairo, Egypt. Mahraganat singers emerged before the 2011 revolution, but the trend has spread rapidly because of the loosening of societal restrictions attributed at least in part to the uprising. It has revolutionized its pop culture scene, from language to music and art, bringing in a vibe of rebellion and voices from the urban poor.
